It's Been 50 Years--It's Time to Retire!

What a wonderful career I've had for over 50 years teaching cooking classes all over California but mostly here near my home in San Diego County. It's been a joy working with all of you and I miss you all a bunch. I definitely don't miss the hauling around of food and equipment but I do miss the teaching and comradery with all of you students and assistants. It has been a privilege. I appreciate your support and caring over the years and do hope the recipes I've prepared for and with you are still being cooked in your kitchens today.

Besides the many hundreds of classes I've taught, I have also enjoyed the many trips I've taken with you. We've been to Mexico, Alaska, Australia, France, Italy, New England and Canada, Spain and Portugal and around the Mediterranean several times. Last year we cruised around Japan (the picture above is from the kitchen onboard during our class!) It has been a blast seeing the world with you. I actually do have a final group river cruise coming up this October. We'll be cruising down the Douro River from Spain to Portugal. Who knows, we may think of a trip for 2027 as well.

While is excellent health I am doing lots of traveling. I think last year was the fullest travel year--with trips to Florida, Japan, Monterey and Napa, Yellowstone National Park, Maryland, finishing right before Christmas with a cruise of the Western Caribbean. This year I have 2 big trips planned--the one I mentioned to Spain and Portugal where we'll spend an extra couple of weeks before the cruise touring Spain as well and a 19 trip to Northern Italy this April for lots of wine tasting and 5 days of a cooking school. Not sure what else will crop up but there's sure to be more. The world it so full of wonderful places to visit.

I just sent my last email from Constant Contact. I've been holding on to my account for a couple of extra years (paying each month) and I am finally calling it quits. My plan last year was to collect some of my favorite recipes taught over the years and put them together in a booklet--many 2 recipes per year. Well, this has become a huge job and I am still working on it and will finish it eventually. Keep checking here on my website for information. I did save your addresses and will let you know when this is available for download but if you wish to get in touch feel free to email me any time and I'll be happy to help find a lost recipe if I can.

So again, thank you all and keep cooking!

Love, Phillis Carey
